Here are the best places to eat in Sokcho, South Korea. Sokcho is a city located in the northern part of the east coast of Gangwon Province, South Korea. Sokcho is a popular travel destination for Koreans because of its many tourist spots and restaurants. I’ve been to Sokcho many times and enjoyed various foods. Today, I would like to introduce 10 restaurants in Sokcho that I have visited.

When looking for a place to eat in Sokcho, expect to wait!
Sokcho tends to be crowded at popular restaurants, so waiting is a must during meal times, especially on weekends and during the holiday season.
I usually eat seafood like mulhoe, sashimi, and snow crab on a regular basis, so I skipped them on this trip.
Sokcho’s signature chicken stew – Manseok Dakgangjeong
One of the representative foods that comes to mind when you think of Sokcho is dakgangjeong.
Manseok Dakgangjeong at Sokcho Jungang Market
I visited and tried it myself, but it was close to closing time and only one menu item was on sale, and to be honest, it was a bit disappointing compared to my expectations.
I don’t know why it’s so famous, but it was just plain to my taste. Still, if you’re in Sokcho, it wouldn’t hurt to experience it at least once.
Grilled fish in Sokcho
There are many grilled fish restaurants in Sokcho, but here are two that I really enjoyed.
88 Grilled Fish
Dongmyeonghang Charcoal Grilled Fish
It was hard to choose as they both serve charcoal-grilled fish, so I decided to go to Dongmyeonghang Charcoal Grilled Fish because of its location.
I was very satisfied with the moist and flavorful grilled fish, served with rice and neat side dishes. It’s a dish that everyone will love, young and old.
Sokcho Jungang Market’s Specialty – Gangwon-do Makgeollisulbap
Sokcho Jungang Market has another specialty.
Gangwon-do makgeollisulbap.
It’s famous for being featured in “Master of Life”. Even if you don’t normally like sake bread, it’s worth a try. You can buy it for 5,000 won, and the soft texture was impressive. It was so delicious that I regretted buying three pieces.
Steamed stingray in Sokcho
In Sokcho, not only grilled fish, but also steamed fish is popular, especially stingray.
Auntie’s Restaurant
Hwanggane Jjim
Both places are known for their long wait. I tend to avoid places with long waits, so I chose Hwanggane Jjim.
I was lucky enough to be one of the last customers in, so instead of the stingray jjim, I ordered the fish assortment jjim. The assortment jjim also included stingray, which was sweet and tender, perfect for eating with rice.
Must-try late night snacks in Sokcho – Squid Sundae & Grilled Scallops
For something lighter to eat in the evening, here are some recommendations.
Mother and daughter scallops
Soyeon
Mother and daughter scallops are so famous that there is a long wait to take them home. There are no numbered tables, so you have to wait in line.
On the other hand, I was able to eat Soyeon Ine right away without waiting. I heard that the same restaurant also sells squid sundae, so I ordered it, and it was really delicious. It went well as a side dish with rice and as an appetizer with beer.
